Treat people with kindness

The story

so i don’t get why people can be so rude at work. i mean, all these managers are supposed to be examples of leadership but they just treat everyone like dirt. like, you’d think it wouldn’t be that hard to just treat people with some basic kindness and respect, right?

every day there’s a new thing someone has done or said that just makes me question humanity. last week, one of the higher-ups yelled at my friend over something small and, honestly, it wasn’t even her fault! i know stuff gets stressful but man... have some decency.

just yesterday, another manager brushed off my concerns without even listening. they act like they're too busy to bother with us mere mortals. it's annoying how folks in charge can be so out of touch with the reality on the ground. guess that’s why i’m here ranting about it.

I totally feel you on this! I once had a boss who would interrupt every meeting just to criticize people for no reason at all.

exactly! it's like they get power hungry or something.

i hear ya! maybe they're stressed? do you think talking to them directly might help tho?

Whoa, sounds like you’re stuck in a bit of a power-tripping nightmare. It’s crazy how some managers think barking orders makes them look competent, when it just shows they don’t know jack about leadership or building a team. 🙄 Seriously, do they forget that we're all human beings trying to do our jobs? It's not that hard to offer a little respect and genuinely pay attention to what people have to say. Just remember, you're not alone in feeling this way... there are better workplaces out there where leaders actually act like leaders! Hang in there!

It's really frustrating when people who are supposed to lead just miss the whole point of what leadership is about; maybe they just assume their position gives them a free pass to forget how basic kindness works? It leaves you wondering if they ever genuinely cared or if it's all just an act for show. I've noticed in some places that once folks move up, they kind of lose sight of what it's like on the ground level, maybe they even forget what it was like before they had any power. The sad part is that treating people with respect doesn't require much effort! Have you thought about whether these managers even realize how they're coming off or if it's just their default setting now???

Honestly, this kind of behavior is common everywhere. Not much you can do about it in most cases.

!That's life I guess...

ugh, that sounds all too familiar. it’s like they went to some secret manager school where the first lesson is "how to ignore and belittle employees 101." i swear, if it weren’t so sad, it'd be comical how out of touch some folks in management can be. one time, i suggested a simple fix for an ongoing issue at my job, and you'd think i'd suggested we revamp the whole company system based on their reaction! it's frustrating because the workplace could be such a better environment if people just took two seconds to actually listen and show a little understanding. but hey, maybe pigs will fly before empathy becomes part of corporate culture.

Sucks a lot!

It's frustrating when those who are supposed to lead act like they're above everyone else. I remember having a manager who, instead of giving constructive criticism, would just nitpick the tiniest things in emails with passive-aggressive tones 😒; it was so demoralizing. Sometimes, I think these folks forget what it's like to be on the ground doing the actual work. It's unfortunate but maybe focusing on maintaining your own professionalism and finding ways to support each other can help lighten the emotional load somewhat!

Most managers prioritize results over empathy because that's what they are measured on. It's not an excuse for poor behavior but a likely cause. Maybe try finding allies among coworkers who feel the same way? A unified voice might make a difference.

i kinda agree with ya, but sometimes we gotta try and see their side too... maybe they're dealing with stuff we don't know?

Author 14d ago

yeah you're right... might be something going on.
