i think i want a divorce
The story
i think i want a divorce, and it's been on my mind for ages. like, i'm sitting here just daydreaming about what life would be if it was just me, you know? the little things my partner does used to be cute and quirky but now they're just annoying. like when they chew super loud or leave their socks everywhere... no one's perfect, but man, these things really bug me lately 😩. it's like every time i turn around there's something else that grates on my nerves.
so i talked to a friend about it the other day. she said some stuff that really made me question everything even more. 'are you sure you're not just bored?' she asked. that's a valid point because after all these years sometimes i can't tell if it's boredom or resentment or both! part of me feels guilty for feeling this way, like i'm betraying something sacred. maybe this is just a rough patch and i'll snap out of it soon, but then again maybe not? i'm over-analytical by nature so naturally i've been picking apart every little detail in our relationship hoping to find some clarity, but mostly it's left me spinning my own wheels without getting anywhere interesting. when did this become so complicated?

been there too...
it's kind of comforting to know i'm not alone in this feeling... i mean, it makes me wonder how many other people are quietly wrestling with their thoughts while putting on a brave face. do you ever find that you just keep it all bottled up because talking about it feels like speaking it into reality?
sounds like you're really going through it right now; relationships can get so complicated over time. it's common to feel stuck or uncertain especially when those little things start adding up and just drive you nuts 😬. you ever think about maybe talking things over with your partner though? sometimes having an open conversation can shed a lot of light on the situation, even if it's tough to face. exploring whether this is a phase or something deeper might take some pressure off making any big decisions. plus, who knows, they might not even realize what's bugging you and could be willing to work together on these issues!
thanks for the suggestion. i've thought about it, but it's just so hard to bring up without causing a big thing, you know? maybe talking about it will help me figure out where my head's really at...
Divorce is a really big decision! You just seem bored to me. 🤔 Seems like you're nitpicking all those small things that shouldn't be so terrible if everything else was good. Socks and loud chewing? Come on. Those are easy fixes if you ask me. Maybe spice things up instead of throwing in the towel, right? It's not like your partner suddenly changed overnight or something, did they? You're definitely spinning your wheels without getting anywhere new. Just my two cents...
Wow, considering divorce over loud chewing and socks? Not to be harsh, but maybe think about whether you're just looking for an excuse to bail. 🙃 Relationships often go through phases where the spark dims a bit. Maybe try spicing things up before jumping to conclusions! If every little thing is annoying you now, could it be more about self-reflection than your partner's quirks? 🧐
I get what you're saying, but it's more complicated than just loud chewing and socks. Little things pile up over time. I know relationships have ups and downs, but I'm trying to figure out if this is something that can be fixed or if it's deeper than that.
wow, sounds like a real doozy you've got there; relationships can definitely get super complex, can't they? i'm just gonna throw it out there though: could it be a classic case of the grass-is-always-greener syndrome? 😅 when you're in a long-term relationship, it's so easy to start hyper-focusing on those little things that drive you up the wall. i think your friend's "are you bored?" question might actually be onto something here: sometimes we all romanticize what life would look like on our own or with someone else, but it's often just an escape from dealing with present frustrations. maybe give yourself some space and time to see if these feelings pass or persist before making any big decisions; nobody ever really warns us about how silly arguments over socks can feel like existential crises!
You mention you're "picking apart every little detail" but wondering, have you considered couples therapy? It sounds like a classic case of decision fatigue mixed with unmet expectations. Everyone hits that point in relationships where small things start feeling monumental; isn't it ironic how love's quirks transform into irritations?! It's curious whether a structured environment could help declutter those thoughts and bring clarity instead of just spinning wheels.
i've thought about therapy but not super seriously. i worry we might just end up going in circles there too. maybe i'm scared that talking through it could both help and hurt more? the idea stresses me out a bit...
It's understandable but do consider talking it through together first.
True, talking it out might help, but it's so hard to bring it up without sounding like I'm just complaining. I don't want to hurt them if this is only a phase, you know? Sometimes I just freeze up thinking about starting that conversation.
It sounds like you're going through a tough time trying to figure out what's best for you and your future; have you ever considered talking to a therapist or counselor just for another perspective?
yo, dude, sounds like you're in a swirl of confusion and it's only natural to feel that way. those little annoying things can really add up over time, right? but have you tried talking to your partner about how you feel before making any big moves? maybe they’ve noticed some stuff too and talking it out could help both of you figure out what’s next. 🤔
i haven't really talked to them about it yet. i keep going back and forth, not sure if it'll help or just make things more awkward. maybe i'm afraid of what they'll say, or maybe i just don't want to face the truth yet? 😬 any ideas on how to start that conversation without making it super weird?
ugh, i totally get where you're coming from. it's like when the stuff that used to be endearing starts feeling like nails on a chalkboard; 🙄 and yeah, overthinking can make it even messier lol. honestly though, your friend's question about boredom vs. resentment is solid food for thought... maybe try taking some time just for yourself if you can; might help clear your head a bit without all the noise. relationships are supposed to be those safe spaces but sometimes they feel more like puzzles with missing pieces;
the way you put it, "nails on a chalkboard", that's literally how i've been feeling! it's like i can't even listen to my partner breathe without feeling irritated. i remember thinking an afternoon by myself at a café would help clear my head once. guess what? all i did was analyze everything harder and ended up stressing more. why is finding clarity so tangled up sometimes?
sounds like a really tough spot to be in; I've heard people talk about how sometimes familiarity can breed contempt, and it's easy for those little quirks to become more irritating over time. maybe it would help to write down what initially attracted you to your partner and weigh them against the frustrations you're feeling now; this exercise might reveal if there's still something worth holding onto or not. contemplating life solo is natural when things get rough but remember that imagining any change can gloss over potential challenges you'll face on your own. reflecting on long-term goals and values might also offer insight into whether you both are still aligned and if those alignments feel worth fighting for. whatever decision you make, being patient with yourself during this process seems vital as emotions can cloud judgment;
idk relationships r hard.. sumtimes u think ur done till smthng clicks n ur ok again lol iv been thru similar phases bt they pass if u deal wit em rite..or maybe theres new issues hidden idk
Maybe you're overthinking it?!
Overthinking is practically my middle name. 🙃 Sometimes it's hard to tell if I'm analyzing too much or if these feelings are legit though. I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
It seems you're dealing with a season of introspection, and questioning the nature of your feelings towards your partner is certainly no trivial endeavor. It’s indeed perplexing when once-endearing habits suddenly transform into irritations; perhaps this signifies an underlying shift in priorities or expectations. Contemplating dissatisfaction through questions like, "Is this mere weariness or genuine discontent?" might offer valuable insights. Although guilt accompanies such thoughts, acknowledging them may lead to personal growth and better understanding; maybe focusing on self-discovery could provide some clarity before deciding on any drastic measures.
have you ever thought about what initially drew you to your partner?
Have you mentioned any of these feelings to your partner to see how they respond? It might help clarify where both of you stand on certain matters and whether there's room for improvement or change before deciding on such a big step as divorce.
haven't really found the nerve yet tbh.
Why the doubt?
I guess it's the fear of making a big change and realizing too late that it was just a phase. What if I'm overreacting? It feels so complicated.
i feel you, dude, relationships can get super tricky. have you tried switching up the routine a bit and doing something new together? sometimes stepping outta the usual cycle can help see things differently and re-spark what might be missing; 😅 it doesn't need to be anything big either, maybe just a small trip or even trying out a new hobby together for a change of pace! also, it's important to remember that changes like this aren't always permanent but they do highlight what's actually bugging you versus what's just normal ups and downs. who knows, maybe you'll find something fresh that makes things click again; after all, life’s too short to stay stuck in a rut!
i see what you're saying, and yeah, maybe a change of pace could help a bit. i guess i'm afraid that trying new things won't magically fix what's wrong if the deeper issues are still there. sometimes it feels like the root problem is more than just boredom, but i'm not sure how to tackle it...
relationships are tricky huh...maybe its worth giving it more time cos feelings can be misleading specially during stressful times id say wait n see
I get why you'd feel that way, however sometimes stepping back helps put things into perspective.
