lie by omission
The story
recently, i stumbled upon some curious information. my partner, whom i deeply trust (or so i thought), has been withholding certain details about past relationships. it's not that they've lied outright but these omissions feel significant; interesting how things unravel when you least expect it.
the term 'lie by omission' entered my mind a while ago... does it apply here? technically, there haven't been lies but the lack of transparency is starting to gnaw at me. it's perplexing wondering if what they left unsaid was deliberately concealed or just overlooked.
context matters, right? perhaps this is acceptable in some scenarios....as long as there’s no malicious intent involved. for instance, jane austen once said ‘everybody likes to go their own way...to choose their own time and manner of devotion’. so could leaving out details be a personal choice we must respect?
what boggles my mind is how simple omissions can threaten a foundation built on trust. have you ever wondered if such omissions are forgivable if they're not intended to harm? curiosity got the better of me and now i'm left questioning: should this shake my faith in them or am i overthinking things?
i'm caught between understanding their reasons and feeling like these omissions are undermining our relationship's integrity...does it qualify as deceit if truth isn't presented in full? strangely enough, an absence of direct lies doesn't necessarily comfort me anymore!!!
