A brief sum of my life as a 21 year old
The story
I was born prematurely in December on the same week as Christmas to two Boomer parents... Me and my identical twin sister were supposed to be born at some point in early February of the next year.
I had a pretty good childhood at points, but it also wasn't perfect... My parents would fight sometimes like any parents and my dad would drink alchohol from time to time even after getting baptized and promising not to do so anymore... I think maybe the reason his drinking went over my head until I was around like 12 or 13 was cuz up until that point I was always busy playing with my twin sister in our own imaginative state/world. It was perfect but at the same time not completely. It wasn't just the extra food in the womb that my sister took from me but also she was also quite bossy and controlling to me and the world had to know that she was two minutes older than me.
I can't fully blame my dad for having his issues with drinking because he didn't have the best upbringing... His mom left him with his grandparents when he was five years old and then he didn't see her til well I guess possibly when he married my mom cuz his mom decided to run off and marry her high school sweetheart... My dad had a rough time with his grampa cuz he would kick and hit him sometimes and stuff like that... His grandma treated him a bit better, tho one time when he took her cross necklace, she was furious and went like, "God kill you," toward him.
I would think my dad found comfort through his traumatizing upbringing by drawing on whatever he could get his childhood hands on, or by getting comics from the convenient stores at a good price or free... He never knew his dad cuz he wanted nothing to do with him, but I find that so facinating given how much they look alike.
My mom's childhood was somewhat better than my dad's but still not perfect (not that anyone's is... She grew up as the fourth child of five siblings counting herself, and she was also a twin... Her mom never let her or her siblings help out in the kitchen much at all and her mom also hated conflict, to the point where they all had to always act happy no matter what instead of causing drama. My mom's dad was quite the introvert but hard worker I think and I forget how exactly he treated my mom but I recall her describing it as some sort of abuse from him. Her parents had their own very obvious favouirte child who they gave money at times and of course she had to marry a socipath who when attemping to steal the mother in law's money, somehow convinced his own wife and kids that it was my mom's twin's husband that actually did that.
I'd like to think that part of the reason my nana ended up picking favourites is cuz her grandparents ended up spoiling her brother who ended up having extreme health issues later in life due to all the ice cream he got from the grandparents they shared.
I love my family, but they're definitely far from perfect, and I'd like to think that like anyone, a lot of the ways they act are explained by how they were brought up as kids.
Stay tuned for part two about my upbringing and my realizations based on it.
