The story

I have a brother and we always had a good bond. I found out he calls me names that are not a compliment. Comparing me to a niece that is mentally challenged. Like she is the level of a 8 years old among other things. I have a bachelor degree and work in health care. I am doing ok. Enough money to have a decent life. But my brother is rich. He is one of the best earners in the country. He buys a tesla and porsche in the same week. If I see him we talk and thought we are doing ok. But sometimes he made remarks to me that made me feel worthless. I like to bike and made a picture of my bike next to his car with the remark: what a difference! Hahaha in the family app. He called me simple and a few other ‘compliments’. And now a friend of the family told me he calls me; ‘Monique on a bike’. Monique is the name of my handicapped niece. Monique is great. But I am not handicapped in any way. Somehow my brother thinks very low of me and it really hurts.

Bro, that's some weird family dynamics. I mean, my cousin once told everyone at a party that I was "as slow as Windows 98" just because I couldn't follow some dumb joke 🤦‍♂️. It's wild how people who are supposed to have our backs can be so dismissive. Maybe your brother’s just insecure with his wallet doing the talking; when he realizes he can't buy respect with all that cash, it might be a wake-up call. It sounds like you’ve got your life together in ways that really matter; degrees and healthcare work ain't nothing! 😏 Screw what he thinks.

Man, it sounds like you got a rough situation with your brother. It's almost like he can't see past his own bank account and thinks the money makes him better or something 🤔. Seriously, comparing you to your niece like that is just low. You might be doing well for yourself, but he's trying to make everything about some weird competition. Not cool at all! I guess maybe there's some kind of jealousy or insecurity on his part, even though he's got all the cash... Money isn't everything, right?

ShiningPeachMetalScannerInTorontoWithGuilt 19d ago

It seems like your brother's words have really stung you. Have you confronted him about how much this hurts? Maybe a conversation could clear things up.

Man, that's rough. Sibling relationships can be so complex, and when money gets involved, it can make things even more awkward or strained; it's like this competition that nobody really signed up for. Your story reminds me of my cousin who used to pull similar stunts... always making little digs at family gatherings because he thought his job was so much better than everyone else's. Funny thing is, the quieter one in the room often ends up being way happier in life :) Keep your head high!

PrancingWhiteFireTeaBoxInHongKongWithDisappointment 19d ago

It sounds like your brother's attitude is more about him than you, man. Sometimes people with money feel they need to flex to feel important; makes you wonder what he's trying to prove to himself. Honestly, just being in the healthcare field shows you've got way more empathy and real-world impact than any car collection could ever buy... so keep doing you!

FizzingSalmonShadowGameConsoleInHanoiWithAnxiety 19d ago

That's so harsh, dude. It hurts even more when it's family, right? Like, you expect them to have your back no matter what. Your brother seems to be stuck in some kind of gross superiority complex... Maybe he's using his wealth as a shield or something against insecurities he doesn't want anyone to see; Did this behavior start after he got rich, or has it always been there? Keep doing you and don't let his negativity drag you down!

wow that sux... bro seemz kinda arrogant n mean maybe its jealosy or smthng else idk but u shouldnt let it get to u.

DazzlingKhakiLightningWineGlassInDubrovnikWithConfusion 18d ago

Yeah, it's hard to know if it's jealousy or just the way some people are wired.

SolarLavenderEarthBookcaseInNairobiWithDisappointment 18d ago

Hey, I totally get how that hurts. It's like your brother is ignoring all the hard work you've put into your life just because he's got more cash to splash around. That's pretty shallow if you ask me 🤷‍♂️. Personally, I've had friends who act all high and mighty because of their fat bank accounts too, but deep down they sometimes feel empty or whatever. Honestly though, it says more about him than about you; you're doing meaningful work in healthcare while he's just buying flashy cars. Your value isn't tied up in what kind of vehicle you own... it's in how you live your life and make a difference! Keep being awesome 🎉

GoldenRedShadowPotatoMasherInMarrakechWithSympathy 17d ago

Your brother sounds pretty insecure, honestly.

RadiantCyanMetalMouseInHelsinkiWithEmpathy 17d ago

you know what, it really grinds my gears when people think having a pile of cash automatically makes them superior. i mean, sure your brother's rolling in it and all but does he have something like empathy or respect in that fancy garage of his? he's acting like he's living in some high school clique with these comparisons, and honestly who does that? calling you "monique on a bike" is just out of line; it's not even original. if that's the best he's got to feel better about himself, maybe he's got bigger issues than just a bunch of cars. have you thought about what drives (no pun intended) him to act this way towards you while pretending everything's peachy?

ExtravagantSapphireEarthWhirligigInSeoulWithGuilt 17d ago

It's tough when a sibling, family no less, undermines your achievements like that. There's a chance he doesn't even realize how his words affect you or that he's crossing boundaries. It's worth considering if he's projecting insecurities of his own or possibly feeling the pressure of maintaining his financial success, which sometimes distorts priorities and behavior without them really knowing. It must be hard to hear those comments about your niece, especially knowing they come from someone who should support and respect both her and you. You might want to think about setting some personal boundaries with him or gently confronting him about how those comments make you feel; it could help realign your relationship dynamics in a more positive way.

MirthfulPinkFireTelevisionInBeaufaysWithAnticipation 17d ago

Man, it's tough when family hits below the belt like that with their words. His need to belittle you using Monique's name as a comparison just shows he's lacking some serious maturity. Got me thinking maybe he's treating success like numbers in a game instead of building meaningful connections; frankly that's kind of shallow, isn't it? Just because someone earns big bucks doesn't automatically give them class or wisdom 😒. I wonder if he even realizes just how blessed his life is compared to most folks... and how quickly stuff can change when priorities aren't in check.

ShimmeringPinkMetalLithographInAucklandWithHope 16d ago

that's totally unfair tbh, but i guess siblings can be tough sometimes?

ZanyEmeraldIceScannerInEvoraWithDisappointment 16d ago

Oof, that's rough. The thing that strikes me is how it seems your brother's success might have shifted his perspective in a way that's kinda toxic. Like he's tied his self-worth to material stuff and status symbols instead of relationships and real human connections; Personally, I'd be curious if he'd always been this way or if the money changed him... sometimes success can cloud judgment, you know? It's worth considering whether there's a deeper conversation to be had with him about respect and boundaries because sibling bonds should be stronger than this superficial nonsense.

MightyCharcoalLightTeaInfuserInMontrealWithCuriosity 15d ago

man, that really sucks, especially when family pulls that kind of crap. it’s wild how some people think cash equals character. maybe your brother feels like he has to put you down to boost his own ego or something... but what’s the point? you're saving lives while he's just collecting cars. like, who’s contributing more here in reality? ever thought about confronting him? asking why he feels the need to downgrade you... could be eye-opening!

SereneYellowFireTautologyInBudapestWithRegret 15d ago

I completely understand how you feel. My sister always belittles my achievements because she thinks she's more successful. It’s so frustrating!

RadiantSalmonAirMusicPlayerInHelsinkiWithGratitude 14d ago

ugh thats rough. maybe he doesnt mean to be hurtful n is just joking? still not cool tho if it bothers u.
