The story
so i'm at that point where i'm questioning if fitting in is even worth it. you know the drill, everyone wants to be liked (especially by their partner's family), but seriously, it's starting to get to me. my partner? loves me just the way i am, imperfections and all, yet here i am shifting gears trying to align myself with what his folks expect. guess what? not a fan of this new version of 'me'. i catch those sideways glances and hear passive-aggressive comments about everything from how i dress to how i eat (i mean, who knew eating spaghetti could be controversial). every family dinner i'm acting like i'm auditioning for some part instead of just being there. exhausting doesn’t cut it.
here we are, another classic case of approval-seeking behavior. doesn't help that his parents are also those types who treat vacations as competitive sport because when your holiday post gets more likes than theirs, you're suddenly unacceptable. man it's like "calm down yo" world ain't revolving around your instagram feed. 'those who matter don't mind,' right? but in their eyes i'm constantly needing improvement.and yes, i've heard those expressions before: 'wear something nicer' or maybe 'try picking up a hobby.' fun fact: there's nothing wrong with liking casual over glitzy sunday brunches.i once wore my favorite band tee (not mentioning names here) and was told it looked ''childish''. let's talk about eyeroll moments.
