why do people dislike me?
The story
I recently went to a family gathering, and let me tell you, it was a weird experience. I was surrounded by relatives, laughter, and chatter, but somehow I felt like I was in a bubble. It was like everyone decided to give me the cold shoulder. I was trying to be friendly and approachable, but it was like I had an invisible force field around me that kept people at bay.
I mean, what gives? I thought family was supposed to mean something. I kept wondering if I’d missed some social memo that everyone else got. Did I misread the vibe? Was there something about me that screamed “stay away”? The whole thing was exhausting. Every conversation felt like I was splashing around in shallow water while everyone else was swimming in the deep end.
I started replaying past interactions in my head, dissecting every little thing. Was there some kind of misstep I didn't catch? It’s frustrating when you realize that perception can overshadow intent. Maybe they see me as abrasive when I’m just trying to be myself.
Instead of letting it drag me down, I figured I’d try to flip the script. Maybe these awkward moments are just lessons in disguise. I’m still hopeful that I can figure out how to connect better and break through that weird barrier. I guess I’ll keep pushing forward and see what happens. I just wish it didn’t feel so damn lonely sometimes.

i felt the same way once at a big party
I can definitely relate to that feeling. It's like being surrounded by people, yet still feeling isolated in the middle of it all. Strange how such bustling environments can leave one questioning their connection with others.
Once at a barbecue, I noticed everyone was talking to each other while I felt like a ghost, so I decided to break the ice by asking about a movie I'd seen recently and it totally changed the vibe; maybe next time you could try starting with sharing something personal or funny which might help others see you're open and friendly too.
yeah being in a bubble at family gatherings sucks. feels like you’re on a different planet, right? maybe it’s their problem and not yours if they don’t see the real you. just keep doing you, man. sometimes people are weird and distant for no reason; things will get better eventually!
Been there, totally get the cold shoulder feeling at family things. Sometimes I find it’s really just about everyone being stuck in their own heads or cliques and not even noticing anyone outside of it; really annoying!!! I've been at gatherings where people didn’t even ask what was new with me 🙄 Next time you might try anchoring a corner convo with another “bubble buddy” – there's usually someone else awkwardly floating around who feels the same! Good to see you're seeing these moments as learning opportunities...what matters is knowing your own worth!
Yeah, I think you're right about people being stuck in their own cliques. It can feel so isolating. Anchoring a convo with another "bubble buddy" sounds like a good move. Might actually try that next time instead of feeling like furniture in the room. Thanks for the suggestion!
Well, maybe it's not all about you?? Family gatherings can be chaotic and people just caught up in their own stuff. Who knows what's going through everyone's heads?! It happens. Might just be that when you’re feeling insecure, everything seems worse than it is. Keep being yourself and don't overthink too much! Trying hard won't make things better immediately but hang in there.
maybe ur reading too much into it
You might be right but it's hard not to notice.
sounds rough, man. sometimes people get caught up in their own worlds and forget to include others. don't beat yourself up too much about it. maybe next time try a different approach or just focus on those who do acknowledge you. things might change! 😊
i often wonder if we unintentionally send signals that make people wary. do you think maybe you're just picking up on others' discomfort or insecurity instead of disliking? sometimes i feel isolated too but later realize they were shy.
It's possible others' discomfort plays a role. Maybe I'm misreading the room and assuming dislike when it's just shyness or uncertainty. It's like everyone's walking on eggshells, making it hard to know what messages are real and which are self-imposed doubts.
felt similar at a few family gatherings myself, where it seems like everyone's speaking a different language; almost makes you wonder if they've got some secret chat group you're not in 😅 weird how sometimes we feel like we're outside looking in, even with people you've known forever. could just be that everyone's caught up in their own drama or routines and it's no reflection on you personally; just keep chillin' and being genuine. i mean, there's no magic fix for feeling out of place but trying to force connections when they're meant to happen might leave ya more frustrated. who knows though, next time could surprise you 😊
feeling like you're in a bubble at these things, man, it’s as if everyone's on a wavelength you can’t quite tune into.
Yeah, it's like I'm just off the beaten path or something. Maybe I try too hard and miss those cues everybody else seems to get naturally. I just can't help but wonder what's off about me that they seem to sense.
yea u know what happenes happens at parties peeps dont talk sometimes ur just thinkin bout it to hard happened before
:) Happens often don't worry!
Think you're correct! Maybe blowing outta proportion...
