Friendship breakup
The story
A few months ago I ran into a friend who was more like a little sister to me. We were naming plans for what time we would leave for football the next day and I made a joke to her she was in for a big night when she was carrying a few pizzas.
The next day on the way to football with another one of our teammates and her partner he made a comment about “last night” and the girlfriend hit him to shut him up.
I questioned why this was being hidden. They were going on about some of their friends being two faced so I was like well this is pretty two faced what you’re doing trying to hide this from me. I’d like to say I couldn’t care less if I didn’t get invited to the get together but the fact that I’d spoken to both these girls to night before and it was all kept a secret.
When I pushed further the girl who’s like family said I didn’t get invited to her sisters house because I don’t like her partner and he didn’t want me there. Mind you she doesn’t like him either but I’ve been making an effort with him and I also babysit their daughter for many months while they couldn’t get anyone.
So I messaged the sister who has been my best friend since childhood and asked what the go was. She told me there wasn’t anything to be invited to and accused me of blowing it out of proportion. I never replied because I didn’t want to go back and forth but I often think about it since it’s still fairly recent and we live in a small town.
I still don’t care if I didn’t get invited to the get together because I most likely wouldn’t have gone but what made me really upset was that it was clear they were trying to hide it (and very badly might I say). One says there wasn’t anything to be invited to and the other says the opposite so who knows but these people were more family than my own so it’s been quite hard. However I’ve felt great in myself since pulling back from the friendships since all they done was run people down.
I have also been backstabbed by another person in town who I also considered family so it’s hard not having any friend in town to talk to.

man, that kind of stuff really can mess with your head. there's nothing worse than finding out people you thought were like family are being shady behind your back. it just goes to show how complicated friendships can get sometimes, especially in tight-knit communities. it's totally natural to feel bummed when things shift this way, but you're better off without all that drama dragging you down, y'know? keep doing what makes you feel good; sounds like pulling back is already giving you some peace of mind. 🤷♂️
