How to forgive yourself for hurting someone?
The story
yo, so i got into this stupid yelling match with my buddy, right? it started over something small like whose turn it was to buy the beer for our friday night hangout. but man, things got heated fast and before i knew it i threw some pretty harsh words his way. at first, i brushed it off thinking we'll just laugh it out later but a few days passed and it's been eating me up inside seeing how distant he's been since then.
it's like those words just slipped out and didn't mean much in the moment. then you go home and replay it over and over in your head. remember that saying: 'sticks and stones may break my bones'? yeah well whoever said that clearly never had a tight friendship on the line because dude, words totally hurt! i've tried reaching out a couple of times but getting back only short texts which makes me feel like i'm talking to myself here.
i know some people say time heals all wounds or whatever. but what if it's not enough? i'm stuck trying to figure out if an apology is gonna fix this or if i should give him space until he comes around himself. really feeling guilty as hell. anyone have tips on forgiving yourself when you've hurt someone you care about? it's like drowning in guilt honestly... yet still hoping for some clarity....
