Vent to someone
The story
so here's the deal: i've got this friend who's always going on about their problems. don't get me wrong, i care about them and want to be supportive, but it feels like every conversation is just me listening to their issues, you know? i mean, i've tried dropping hints about needing some venting space myself but somehow it goes unnoticed. talking to them can be a real energy zapper 😩 it's like i'm on call 24/7 for their stuff and meanwhile i'm sitting here thinking hey maybe i'd like some ear-time too. it's beginning to feel like a one-sided friendship and i don't know how much longer i can keep pretending everything's cool. they text or call whenever they're upset expecting full attention while my stuff gets brushed aside... kinda makes me wonder if this is really a two-way street 🤷♂️
sometimes i'll mention my own stressors lightly hoping to steer the convo into something a bit more mutual but nope, back to theirs again! i'm starting to ruminate over whether they even realize how lopsided it is or if they're genuinely clueless (which is possible because not everyone has that self-awareness). there were moments when they'd ask 'how are you doin'?' then jump right back into their saga before i can even say 'i'm okay'. 🙄 honestly, balancing this dynamic feels more exhausting than bending backward in yoga... haha! being compassionate and staying polite isn't as easy when you're just worn out from playing listener-in-chief all day. so yeah, that's where i'm at... what do you guys think?

Man, I totally feel ya! It's rough when a friendship starts to feel totally lopsided like that. Maybe you need to have a straight-up convo about it? You wouldn’t believe how some folks can be so wrapped up in their own world they just don't see what's happening; it's like they're blind to the imbalance. Sometimes people need things spelled out for them before changes happen. I had a similar experience with an old buddy and, after one honest chat, things got better... or at least he started to notice me too. It's worth a shot!
