The story

it’s wild how you can be surrounded by family and still feel like the lone wolf in a pack of chatty hyenas. there I was, in the middle of a family gathering, with all these familiar faces yakking away about everything under the sun, from the latest tech stuff to who knows what culinary disaster. honestly, it's like being at some corporate mixer where everyone's trying to outdo each other in small talk. meanwhile, I’m just standing there, wondering if I’m the only one not vibing with this whole scene.

so what am I supposed to do, step outside for a breather? I can’t exactly say, “hey, your endless chatter is slowly eating away at my sanity.” that just feels rude, right? in these awkward get-togethers, you’re expected to smile like everything’s peachy even when you’re screaming inside. god forbid anyone sees through my "I’m totally fine" mask and realizes I’m just itching to bolt from this pretentious circus.

I wish I could just spill my guts to someone about how isolating it feels to be surrounded by people yet so disconnected. like, why can’t we have a little confidentiality agreement for family chats? imagine that, signing an NDA before discussing feelings. instead, all I hear are opinions like they’re broadcasting live on some reality show.

some days, I really wonder if anyone gets this feeling. we're supposed to treasure these moments, but it’s just ironic. expected to fit into these neat little boxes labeled "family" while my actual need for real conversation is drowning under all the superficial chit-chat about stuff that’s basically meaningless.

floating through all this mindless banter while actual discussions about life get drowned out is exhausting. are they really that clueless, or do they just not care to dig deeper than surface-level talk? overwhelmed doesn’t even begin to cover it when you’re stuck in a sea of trivial nonsense that drowns out any genuine connection. I’m left asking myself, does anyone actually care anymore?
