People hate me
The story
So I recently had to move to a different part of a big city for what I thought would be a career boost. You know, the kind of move that makes you feel like you’re stepping into a whole new world with exciting opportunities and all that jazz. But nope, instead, I feel like I landed on another planet.
Take this neighborhood gathering I went to. It was supposed to be a fun way to meet neighbors and bond, but instead, I felt like an awkward alien trying to blend in. I showed up with a cheese platter and my best smile, thinking I’d be the life of the party. But everyone else was in their own little social bubbles, laughing and chatting like they were all old friends. Meanwhile, I was just standing there, trying to figure out how to break into their conversations. It was like I was trying to join the coolest club in town, and I didn’t even know the secret handshake!
I tried talking about some common interests, but I got hit with a lot of blank stares. Was it the random industry lingo I dropped? Did I come off too formal? Honestly, I can’t tell if it’s just me or if the vibe here is way more chill than I’m used to.
After that night, I couldn’t help but question everything about myself. Am I too stiff? Should I be throwing out compliments like confetti? I mean, how hard can it be to connect with people? I’m trying to stay positive, though. I refuse to let this social awkwardness crush my spirit. Maybe I just need to keep putting myself out there and eventually I’ll find my groove. Fingers crossed, right?
