A confession of something taking control of me

The story

For many years now I have been struggling with addiction to pornography. I have tried doing things to distract myself and even hit myself on my hand with a ruler when I disobeyed myself. My porn addiction feels like I have been turned into a puppet on strings, feeling like I am unable to do something about it even when I feel like I have tried my absolute best to get away from it. I feel like I am going to hell for being trapped by online lust. I just want to be forgiven and happy. What can I do? I feel like absolute shit and almost run dry of hope. I honestly feel scared.

Man, addiction's tough as hell. It's like fighting a losing battle when you feel those strings pulling; been there with my own demons. But hey, don't beat yourself up too hard, alright? You’re not alone in this struggle! A ton of folks are facing similar issues and coming out stronger; maybe reach out to some support groups or therapy...the right help can be a game-changer!

Hitting yourself with a ruler? That's punishing yourself for something that needs understanding, not pain. 🤔 Honestly, it seems like you're stuck in a guilt cycle and it's weighing you down. Have you considered approaching this like any other behavioral change by maybe setting small, achievable goals instead of going cold turkey? I mean, what would it look like to make tiny steps rather than aiming for immediate perfection?

It sounds like you're really battling with this; it's tough when our efforts don't feel like enough, right? Addiction can be a chronic issue that requires more than just willpower to overcome. Have you considered talking to a professional, maybe a therapist or counselor who specializes in this area? They might offer strategies or treatments that can help work through these feelings and behavioral patterns.

been in a similar spot myself. used to think those strings had me tied down for good. it's like being trapped in a labyrinth with no way out. one day, i stumbled across this article discussing how small victories can make a huge difference even if they seem insignificant at first. baby steps add up, you know? finding little things that give you joy or pride, even outside the struggle, can slowly loosen those strings bit by bit.

Yo, this sounds rough. 😕 I can't say I know exactly what you're going through, but seriously, feeling like a puppet on strings is no joke. Have you ever thought about trying to get some professional help, maybe? Like, sometimes it's just too intense to tackle alone and having someone guide you could actually make a real difference. It’s easy to feel like you're heading for disaster when you're stuck in that loop of shame, man... But, maybe there’s still a shot at rewiring things without beating yourself up over it...

Beating yourself up, quite literally, doesn't seem productive. Addiction, especially with something so readily accessible like porn, is challenging to overcome alone; it's not just about willpower or desire. Have you thought about exploring cognitive behavioral therapy? It might help reframe your thoughts and break the cycle of guilt and shame you're dealing with!!! Remember, a healthy mind matters as much as anything else.

It's evident that you're battling a challenging situation; I truly empathize with your plight. It's worth pondering if there's a deeper underlying issue fueling this addiction, something psychological maybe? Identifying and addressing the root cause can sometimes be more impactful than just tackling the symptoms of addiction itself. Take this seriously, but remember you’re more than your struggles.

honestly, i get where you're coming from, feeling scared and hopeless is just the worst. it’s crazy how strong the grip can be sometimes. have you thought about finding a hobby or something creative to channel that energy into? for me, when i was stuck in my own obsessive cycle, picking up photography gave me this sense of purpose and focus beyond the addiction. connecting with others who share similar interests might also give you some support and distractions when things feel heavy. keep pushing forward; there's light at the end of the tunnel even if it feels far right now!

It's kinda wild how society often overlooks the impact of digital addictions, treating them like they're not "real" compared to substances, but they grip you just as tightly; I used to brush off my own digital habits thinking they weren't a big deal until I realized I was missing out on real-life moments.

It's tough when you feel trapped by something like this. Have you thought about talking to a professional or a support group? They might have some strategies that could help.

Good suggestion! Therapy helped my friend a lot.

Honestly, it's tough to admit when something like this gets a grip on you. I had my own share of struggles with different vices growing up and realized that sometimes, it’s the environment around us that plays a trick too. Like, if you're always in places or situations where access is super easy, stepping away from those for a bit could change the how often it tempts you. Think back to times before things got heavier... what were you passionate about or enjoyed doing? Missing those bits can sometimes help identify where things got sidetracked. It’s surprising how reconnecting with past hobbies or interests can redirect focus and bring some new light to your days.

man, isn't it wild how we can sometimes feel like our brains are wired against us? gotta admit, punishing yourself physically ain't the way to go. i mean, it's not like we're back in the dark ages where that would actually solve anything lol. have you heard about mindful meditation or journaling? sounds a bit "zen master," but hey, just sitting and letting your thoughts pass without judging 'em might ease some tension; it's kinda liberating when you get into it. plus, think about chatting up folks who’ve shadowed this path before and found a way out... we all trip up, but there's something to gain from others' spills too 🤔

consider trying out mindfulness or meditation; these practices can sometimes help in gaining control over compulsive behaviors by making you more aware of your thoughts and urges without immediately acting on them.

I once quit something too but it was hard at first!
