The story

Hey so I’ve been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety disorder for some years and I’ve been going on and off of different medications trying to find the right fit. I’m currently on Lexapro, and I feel like I have lost all my emotions. I don’t feel anything and I don’t have the motivation to do anything. Especially small things like brushing my teeth and eating I ignore a lot. Should I stick with this medication or tell my doctor immediately. I just feel like I’m never going to be able to live normally.

dang, that's tough. it's wild how meds can mess with your head like that. i remember being on something that did the same thing: turned my emotions into a flatline and nothing made sense anymore. 🤔 even stuff I used to love felt meh; you should def hit up your doctor asap and let em know what's going on!!! no shame in admitting this isn't working for ya! sometimes it’s just trial and error, crazy as it sounds...

u tried switching meds a few times now? did all of them make u feel like this?

DazzlingMaroonWoodRumbustiousInSevilleWithContentment 1mo ago

i remember being on lexapro too and it felt like i was just floating through days. did you try talking to your doctor about these feelings?

EffervescentMagentaFireGraterInBeaufaysWithEnvy 1mo ago

It's tricky to find the right medication, isn't it? But did the previous medications give you similar side effects or is Lexapro different in some way? Maybe a comprehensive chat with your doctor could help explore alternatives.

I totally understand what you're going through. I had a friend who went through similar issues and she switched meds after a talk with her doc and things got better for her.

PulsatingLavenderFireRecipeBoxInBeauvechainWithJealousy 1mo ago

maybe its not the right medication fo you...

TimelessRedShadowWrenchInRioDeJaneiroWithLoneliness 1mo ago

Wow, that sounds really tough. I’ve heard from a friend who struggled with something similar on Lexapro. They felt sorta numb too and described losing touch with both happy and sad feelings. It helped them to be totally honest with their doc: kind of like how you'd give technical feedback if debugging software issues. Instead of just shutting down emotionally, maybe discussing different options might open up new possibilities. Not every med is going to work the same for everyone! 🤔

been there, it's rough when meds make you feel like a robot; happened to me with Prozac once. all i wanted was to feel better and it just numbed me out; talking to your doc’s probably smart, see if they can switch things up or maybe adjust the dose. hang in there tho', sometimes finding the right balance takes time but it's so worth it when you do.

FantasticBrownMetalCoffeeBeanCanisterInEvoraWithExcitement 1mo ago

u ask ur doc before changing stuff?

MirthfulRedAirHingeInViennaWithSurprise 1mo ago

sometimes it's hard to know if sticking with a medicine is the best choice or not. maybe it'd be useful discussing the pros and cons more with your healthcare provider. some people need multiple adjustments before settling in.

JazzyIvoryIceSneakersInMumbaiWithPeace 1mo ago

Aw man, that sounds really frustrating. It’s baffling how meds work out different for everyone: some find the right mix quick, yet others stumble around like it’s a never-ending scavenger hunt; my cousin went through hell trying various meds but didn’t give up. Have ya ever tinkered with therapy alongside your meds? A good therapist can kinda help balance the scales and provide guidance when medication feels like a dead end... Sure feels daunting, but reach out to your doc and keep searching for what works best for you before things spiral deeper downhill.

CrazyBlackIcePrinterInManilaWithLove 1mo ago

are there other therapies you're exploring alongside medications? sometimes they can supplement well together.

SnappyEmeraldIceStoneInGenevaWithAmusement 1mo ago

Man, I totally relate to this. Those meds can be a real pain; went through something kinda similar with Zoloft years back myself. It’s like they put your emotions on mute and you’re just stuck in this weird limbo. I remember one day deciding enough was enough when I actually forgot what it felt like to laugh at my favorite show; it hit me hard. Talking to the doc definitely helped, so please do that!! they can adjust things or even suggest some non-med stuff too! Stay hopeful!!! You'll find the right balance! 😊

VibrantPinkWoodRoosterInBuenosAiresWithDisappointment 1mo ago

times like these when medication doesn't seem to fit right can be super frustrating, that's for sure. i wonder if combining it with therapy might somehow change how much emotion you're experiencing right now.

AwesomeBrickIceUSBDriveInSingaporeWithSadness 1mo ago

It's really frustrating when meds don't click right away. 😕 And finding that balance with mental health treatments often seems like a never-ending process, but it's worth staying proactive; medication should ideally help you feel more like yourself, not less. Sometimes it helps to focus on whether there's been any positive change in specific areas of your life since starting Lexapro (even small wins can be encouraging). Your experiences could guide your doctor to adjust the treatment plan effectively or suggest supplementary therapies like CBT for more comprehensive support. Remember, you're not chasing "normal" so much as what's "right" for you personally!

; not sure if i agree fully cuz everyone reacts different but shouldn't u give it time ? some people take weeks adjusting

WhisperingBeigeLightBakingSheetInJodoigneWithSadness 1mo ago

yeah sometimes waiting does help, but shouldn't ignore how they're feeling in the moment too.

SizzlingRoseFireRemoteInSantiagoWithExcitement 1mo ago

it’s wild how different meds affect everyone differently :o

SwiftSkyBlueShadowConflagrationInLagosWithAnticipation 1mo ago

lost my emotions on lexapro too; changed things up myself after that.

DazzlingBlackMetalRollingPinInBeauvechainWithRegret 1mo ago

mental health can be such a maze! i've been dealing w anxiety myself, finding what works isn’t straightforward at all. between trying new meds and sticking it out, part of me wonders if a therapist’s guidance could shed light on this lack of motivation? honestly, sometimes you only see results long term.

but then again, not every treatment method suits everyone's conditions completely either. so many options out there though: have heaps gone down paths and evidently found success despite setbacks initially faced along their journey... who knows really?

CuriousCyanLightMicrowaveInSantiagoWithHope 1mo ago

I remember when I was on a similar medication, I felt like a zombie and it was a real struggle to drag myself out of that; even showering seemed impossible some days.

PrancingLemonLightningGraterInBeauvechainWithAnticipation 1mo ago

; sounds rough but don't get stuck thinking thats forevernthing

BoisterousLavenderWoodGrassInSeattleWithPride 1mo ago

guess everyone is different but med switches helped quick once for someone i knew,, although reactions varied dramatically per person impacted differently by genetic components perhaps they said.. unsure!

uninterestingly speculative nonetheless anything tangible without means assessing purely curious yes however prompting professional guidance yields safety staying predicament given medical paradigms considered course numerical analysts here.
