i cant cry
The story
so here's the deal, i can't even remember the last time i cried 😂 like wtf is wrong with me!!! it's my best friend's funeral and i'm just standing there feeling nothing. nada. zippo. everybody around me is all tears and tissues n stuff, but not yours truly. i was just thinking "what's wrong with me??" while they all cry their eyes out. 🤔
and it doesn't stop there!!! watched this supposedly 'heart-wrenching' movie last night everyone keeps hyping about, you know one of those movies where you're supposed to reach for the tissue box 😒 y'all get the drift...but guess what? NOTHING! didn't shed a single tear!! am i broken or something??? sometimes i wonder if i'm missing a part of my brain that's supposed to deal with emotions or maybe it's shriveled up somewhere in there lol 🤷♂️ it's weird cause if you met me, I'd seem like a regular emotional dude!
it’s kinda freaky every time someone tells a sad story at work or on tv, I sit there like an emotionless robot... like how do these ppl do it?? makes me question if I'm cut out for real human contact anymore 😕 ya know it’s getting really disturbing when anytime something crappy happens - whether it be bad news (lost job) or whatever - my response isn't sadness but just blankness! I'm starting to feel like i'm losing touch with reality!!!!!!!!

I totally get what you're saying; it feels like when my dog passed away a few years ago, everyone around me was bawling their eyes out, but I just stood there feeling nothing. It's almost like there's a switch in the brain that's supposed to flip and it just doesn't sometimes 🤔. Society kinda expects us to react a certain way in emotional situations, and when we don't, it makes us question ourselves... But trust me, it's not about being broken or anything, emotions have their own weird timing!
Man, I feel you!! It's like being stuck in this weird limbo where everyone else is on one emotional wavelength and you're just...not. 🤨 Emotions can be tricky, right? Ever consider if it's maybe your body's way of coping with intense feelings by kinda shutting them down for a bit? Why do you think you've started to notice this shift more recently???
I totally get what you're saying! Sometimes I also don't cry at things that should move me.
That's tough. Do you think it might have something to do with stress levels lately? Maybe you're just burnt out?
dude, i feel ya. happened to me once when my cat died and everyone was expecting me to be a mess but there i was just numb... nothing came out. it's like you're in a different world where you just can't tap into those feelings. sometimes your mind just goes on autopilot, not letting you process stuff the way people expect you to 🤷♂️. maybe you're just not the kinda person who wears their emotions on their sleeve 24/7 and that's cool! keep doing you man, everyone's emotional wavelength is different!!!
Dang, that's rough. Sounds like you're dealing with some real emotional disconnect. It's not super uncommon tho, lots of folks feel the same way but don't really talk about it. Maybe it's just your brain's way of coping with stress? Or maybe you've got some kind of defense mechanism kicking in. 🤷♂️ Don't sweat it too much! If it starts to bother you more, it might be worth chatting with someone who knows their stuff about emotions and minds and all that jazz.
Yo man, that sounds intense! But honestly, everyone processes stuff differently. Maybe your brain’s just wired to handle things in a way that's not typical "emotional" reactions? 😅 Doesn't mean you're losing touch or anything. Sometimes there's no one right way to feel or react and it doesn't make you any less human. Just hang in there and keep being you.
i've been in a similar boat before! once went through a rough patch myself n felt completely numb during situations where id usually be upset or teary-eyed...it's strange being alienated from your own brain in that way. have you tried reaching out to people you trust about this? maybe talking could help unravel some of those feelings.
Ever thought maybe you're just processing stuff differently? 🤷♀️ Like, there's this whole spectrum of how people handle grief and sadness, and not everyone reacts with tears. Sometimes the brain chooses to protect us from overwhelming feelings by kinda going numb. Have you noticed if there are other situations where your reaction seems more "normal" or do you feel like this all the time lately? It's also worth mentioning that society often pressures us into thinking we need to react a certain way, but honestly, everyone's emotional response is unique. Maybe finding someone to talk to might help you unpack this... but no rush, take it at your pace!
man, it’s like your emotional gear got stuck in neutral or something 😂 maybe it's just how you process stuff? idk, feels kinda the same sometimes at my end; some things just don't hit me the way they do with others. ever notice if certain things actually make you feel anything, even if it's not sadness? might be worth digging into why these situations don't move the needle for ya anymore... emotions are complicated as hell!!!
It sounds like a defense mechanism our mind uses sometimes. Maybe your emotions come out differently than others.
Do you think there might be some past stuff or deep-seated issues that are blocking those emotions from coming through?
Have you ever thought about whether your response might just be due to some personal past experiences, like maybe you've built up a thick skin over time without even realizing?
Maybe! I mean, I've never really thought about it that way. Could be just some weird defense mechanism kicking in without me knowing, right?
this happened to me after gradension... nothing!
Honestly, sounds like you might be burnt-out or emotionally exhausted; ever spent so much time stressing that you're just left feeling... nothing? Emotions can be unpredictable, like how sometimes I'll laugh at the worst times. 🤦 Noticing if there's a pattern when this happens could help (even though it's annoying). It's not always about tears. Maybe your brain tunes out what it thinks is "too much" and that's how it keeps balance. Just throwing it out there: consider chatting with a psychologist that vibes with you. Anyway, you'll figure it out. Hang in there!
thanks for the suggestion. maybe i'm just worn out! like, seriously feeling empty even at big moments ain't normal... might try talking to someone about this. it couldn't hurt, right? 🙃
Hey, it’s interesting how you mention feeling like a "regular emotional dude" yet not experiencing the emotions people expect. There's nothing wrong with that and it's quite common for folks to feel this way; reactions to loss or sadness don't always show up as tears. Sometimes people can have what's called alexithymia, where identifying personal emotions is tough or recognizing them in others feels off. Not saying that's definitely what's up, but could explain some of what you're feeling. Maybe take some time doing things that usually help you unwind or reconnect with yourself, you know? Even just chilling out and giving yourself space might change things around, but whatever happens, you're still human for sure!
I understand feeling disconnected too but it helps to explore other outlets for emotion even if you aren't crying.
Man, that sounds pretty wild. Maybe it's just the way you're wired right now, but honestly, I've felt like that before too. Like, you expect yourself to react one way because society or movies show us how we're supposed to feel during certain situations; but our brains don't always play along. Sometimes I think it's a protective shield we put up without even realizing it. When life throws curveballs at me, I sometimes zone out or just don't feel things intensely right away. It's like an emotional delay switch! Just try not to stress too much about it; your feelings might catch up when you least expect it, so be kind to yourself.
dude u sure thers nohing medical behind tat?
