panic attack while driving

The story

so yesterday was a real hoot. I found myself stuck in traffic, and it turned into this chaotic blend of freak-out mode and existential crisis. You know, just your average panic attack while sitting in a metal box surrounded by other people who are probably just as miserable.

my breath decided to play hide and seek with me. I swear it was like trying to catch a butterfly in a tornado. Pretty entertaining, right? I mean, who knew a traffic jam could turn into a personal horror show?

suddenly, I was hyper-aware of my vulnerability in this totally mundane situation. No skydiving or public speaking here, just me and my car, drowning in a symphony of honks and engine noises. Meanwhile, my mind was racing through all those relaxation techniques I’d read about. You know, the diaphragmatic breathing thing, which sounds fancy but feels useless when you feel like you’re suffocating in broad daylight.

I could almost hear T.S. Eliot whispering in my ear, "not with a bang but a whimper." Just as the world sped by, I was stuck wrestling with my own brain. I bet everyone else was glued to their phones, blissfully unaware of my mini meltdown. But here I was, feeling like a hot mess, yet somehow realizing I had this weird resilience bubbling up inside me. Even when my adrenaline was through the roof and my brain felt like it was wrapped in fog, I could still endure.

just when I thought I was about to lose it, something strange happened. A wave of calm washed over me, like surrendering control gave me a moment of clarity. Maybe these little freak-outs are just life’s way of reminding us that it doesn’t always go in a straight line. Sometimes it twists and turns, tossing us into unexpected chaos, but hey, we adapt, right? Or at least we try, while clutching our steering wheels and hoping for the best.
