emotional addiction
The story
I don't know why I keep doing this to myself, but I'm always finding myself tangled up in these ridiculous relationships where the emotional highs and lows are non-stop. It's like I'm some sort of drama junkie or something. Recently, I was seeing someone and I swear, the red flags were slapping me right in the face from day one! But did that stop me? Nope. Because the emotional rollercoaster (there, I said it) just felt so damn satisfying in a messed-up way. It's like when things were good they were amazing, you know? Those moments had me floating on cloud nine without a care in the world about what was actually going on under the surface...
And then, of course, came the inevitable downswing where everything went to hell and I'm left questioning my life choices again! Can't help but wonder if I've got an addiction to all this drama or if I'm just incapable of having a 'normal' relationship?? Sounds pathetic admitting it out loud but here we are... Like last week when she bailed on our plans last-minute with some weak excuse. My gut told me something was off; but instead of calling her out or walking away like a sane person would do... I chose to stick around for more chaos cuz part of me can't resist that unpredictable excitement. And now here we are once again… Or rather: here I am wondering why this keeps happening!!

You really need to reassess how these kinds of relationships benefit you if at all. It sounds like you're knowingly putting yourself in harm's way emotionally just for those fleeting highs. That's not sustainable and won't lead to anything truly fulfilling.
you're right! sustainability is key..
dude i feel you so much! there's something weirdly thrilling about riding that emotional wave even tho u know it's bad for u lol just ended it w/ a guy who'd always leave me hanging yet i stayed hooked.
exactly!! it's such a weird cycle.
why do you think you're drawn to these kinds of situations though? i'm curious about what's keeping you hooked.
Man, sounds like you're caught in a loop but hey, who hasn't been there at some point? It might help to take a step back and reflect on why you gravitate towards drama-filled relationships. Maybe there's something deeper going on that's worth exploring, even if it's not the most comfortable process. Relationships can be addictively chaotic because they give intense emotional highs that make everyday life feel a little bland in comparison. The key could be finding balance without the chaos. Seeking stability can sometimes mean cutting ties with those predictable patterns of drama and instead focusing on what genuinely brings peace and happiness. You got this!
it's like you're chasing that adrenaline rush from the drama, right? i mean, who wouldn't be drawn to those intense highs... but maybe it's time to step back and look at why you keep ending up here. might be worth figuring out what's really driving you towards this chaos so you can break the cycle. drama can feel exciting short-term, but ditch it for something stable and you'd probably find more real happiness in the long run.
Maybe it's time to reflect on what you're truly looking for in a relationship. Getting stuck in these emotional whirlwinds might be filling some kind of void, but have you considered that the constant chaos could be preventing you from experiencing something genuinely meaningful? Sometimes, taking a step back to understand your patterns can offer insights into why stability feels so foreign. It's like you're chasing an adrenaline rush rather than contentment... and that's a totally different ballgame. 🤔
i guess maybe we're wired differently? everyone loves a bit of drama now and then right? or maybe it's only fun until it isn't?
Do you think it's more about craving excitement or maybe something deeper like fear of a stable relationship??? It's wild how those peaks can overshadow all logic and make every red flag seem like just another challenge to conquer; kind of reminds me when I used to chase toxic friendships because the chaos felt oddly rewarding. Have you thought about what exactly draws you in each time??? 🤔 It’s a tough cycle but self-awareness is the first step!
Yeah, maybe it's a mix of both? The thrill of excitement and the fear of what a stable relationship actually means. And those red flags somehow become twisted into part of the fun... It's such a strange cycle but I'm trying to figure it out.
man idk sounds tough sometimes mistakes arent easy too see esp when your caught up in feels n stuff gotta kinda step back sometimes hard i no
ugh same had this guy always ditching last minute yet id still be waiting like what am i hoping will change
Man, I totally get it. Sometimes it's like we crave that rush of emotions, even if we know it's gonna end in a mess. It's almost like finding comfort in chaos because predictability feels too mundane. I've been there too, and honestly, sometimes the familiarity of those highs and lows is addicting. But yeah... maybe it's worth thinking about what truly makes you happy for the long haul. Might be a good time to explore what a calm relationship could offer even if it seems boring at first!
it's interesting how emotions can have such control over us huh? i'm trying to figure out if it's our own minds creating this need for intensity or is it really just the situation?
man, it's like you're chasing that high but it's all heartbreak in the end. i used to dive into those chaotic relationships too and it felt unreal when things were good... but honestly?? staying for the chaos just drained me. maybe you shouldn't think of it as an "addiction" though? sounds like it could just be a habit you’ve gotten used to; screw up after screwy situation with nothing left but stress headaches!!! have you thought about taking some "me time" to break the cycle and figure out what truly matters to you?
Idk man sounds complicated letting go is hard especially when theres so much thrill involved but is there ever gonna be an end point where u find peace i wonder
Yeah it's addictive being on edge haha!
It sounds like you might be drawn to the drama because it provides a sense of intensity and passion that feels lacking elsewhere. Sometimes, it's less about the chaos itself and more about wanting to feel deeply connected or alive. Have you considered if there's another area in your life where this excitement could be channeled instead? Maybe exploring new hobbies or challenges that offer that same rush but in a healthier way might help break the cycle. It's all about finding fulfillment through different outlets!
i totally get what ur saying! i've been there like dating people who constantly ghost yet i'd still crave their attention sounds crazy right?
This totally reminds me bout that time when my ex would make big promises then poof gone MIA he'd appear later acting normal leaving me headspinnin
how do u usually handle these red flag moments tho? does talking it thru even work?
