Can't stop thinking about someone
The story
can't stop thinking about someone i met briefly last summer during a trip. yeah, sounds silly but here we are. it was one of those chance encounters that you think should just fade away, ya know? instead, it's me obsessively replaying every moment with this near-stranger like some cringe-worthy rom-com in my head. can't even believe how much space they've taken up in my brain when we barely exchanged more than a handful of words.
it's not like this person had some breathtaking impact on my life (we barely spoke) yet here i am wondering why they're lodged in my mind rent-free. what's worse is it's messing with my daily grind; can't focus for [expletive] and find myself zoning out on things that actually matter, all because of someone who probably doesn't even remember me. great job, brain. really nailed it.
been trying to rationalize the whole thing and convince myself it's just one of those weird infatuations that'll disappear over time, but nope: still here and thriving for whatever reason. ridiculous how someone so random can have such power over your thoughts, right? 👀 feels like i'm trapped in some absurd subplot of reality yet somehow can't get out.
i see people moving on from actual relationships faster than i can shake off this stranger-from-a-trip memory lane journey i'm stuck on. maybe there's some science behind why our brains do dumb stuff like this or maybe i'm just wired differently. either way, it's annoying as hell and slowly driving me mad.
don't get me wrong, i've tried distracting myself with work or binge-watching trashy shows hoping to drown this nonsense...but each time i pause, there they are again peeking through the mental fog with their unexpected allure. anyone else dealt with this kind of crap? share your wisdom before i turn into a full-blown drama fest.

maybe focusing too much on it is making it worse? Distraction often helps break the cycle...
maybe you're right, but blocking it out feels impossible! i'm trying to distract myself like crazy, yet their face just keeps sneaking back in any free moment. infuriating! 🙃
dude, that sounds like you're trapped in a rom-com episode playing on repeat!!! ever thought that maybe it's not just the person but what they represent?? sometimes we latch onto idealized versions and romanticize them way too much. maybe your brain's hooked onto some fantasy vibe from last summer, not the actual person. i once got stuck obsessing over someone 'cuz they reminded me of who i wanted to be at the time!!! try digging into why this memory's glued to you, might help unravel it. best of luck breaking outta that bizarre subplot!!
😂 lol i had the same thing happen 2 me! lasted ages
wild, right? it's like our brains just can't let go sometimes. glad i'm not the only one stuck on this ridiculous mental loop! did you ever figure out why it lasted so long for you?
man, that totally resonates. brains are such weird things; they latch onto random people or moments like a stray dog to a bone. reminds me of this one time i couldn't get over a classmate from orientation week... practically had zero conversations with them. it's annoying when you want your brain to focus on literally anything else and it just won't listen. sometimes distractions don't cut it but maybe try finding something that demands all your attention, like picking up an intense hobby or going for long runs (works wonders for me). hang in there!
man, it's wild how the brain decides to cling onto such fleeting interactions like they're significant pieces of art or something when in reality it's just a few moments that've been romanticized beyond belief; maybe it has something to do with your subconscious craving some element of mystery or excitement, even though you know they were just another passerby in life's chaotic film reel.
glad to know i'm not the only one whose brain has decided to hit replay on a moment that should've been a blip. maybe you're right, there's something our brains are chasing, like some weird thrill that doesn't even make sense. it's just bizarre how something so... trivial keeps turning up in my thoughts like an unexpected sequel no one asked for.
oh man! I'm so with you on this! something similar happened to me after meeting someone at a wedding last year... couldn't stop thinking about them for months afterward like they were some celeb crush or something. eventually faded tho without any action taken so maybe hang tight! might just pass!
Sometimes we assign way too much significance to random encounters 'cause we're seeking excitement or meaning; it might not be this person's mysterious allure, but maybe you're just missing some thrill or adventure in your day-to-day life.
i guess that makes sense. maybe life's been a little boring lately. still pretty wild that my brain latched onto this one random moment though. who knew it was so desperate for a little spark?
been there too and it's tough to shake off those thoughts sometimes... but maybe there's something deeper you're avoiding that's causing this fixation?
'Deeper?' Like what though? Just feels annoyingly persistent rather than profound...
yo, that's a real head-scratcher, man. it's insane how our brains can latch onto the most random stuff and turn it into some blockbuster drama in our heads; sounds like maybe you're stuck on this fleeting moment 'cause it's symbolizing something deeper for you. ever thought that maybe this person's become a placeholder for something else missing in your life? could be worth exploring what's really under the surface there instead of just trying to shake it off. not gonna lie, once i got hung up on someone who reminded me of an old friend i'd lost touch with... realized later that what i really missed was that connection!
ever thought about how maybe this random fixation is just your mind's way of coping with something else going on in your life?? like, maybe there's an unresolved issue or emotion and your brain's using this stranger as a convenient distraction from dealing with it head-on... it's awkwardly fascinating, huh? sometimes we focus externally because we're not ready to confront what's actually happening internally. might be worth reflecting on other areas of your life! could shed some light on why this memory's being such a relentless drama queen in your head!
huh, that's an angle i hadn't considered. maybe my brain's just up to its usual antics, trying to dodge the real stuff. definitely awkwardly fascinating... i'll have to think about what's really lurking in the background here. thanks for the insight!
same boat dude! still obsessing over someone i met at a conference.
it's like your brain's decided to put this person on a highlight reel! maybe it's tapping into some deeper feeling or need you're not aware of? could be worth exploring why that moment stands out... another angle is, sometimes unfamiliar experiences are more vivid 'cause they break from routine. not saying you're in a rut, but perhaps it’s nudging you towards something new or different you might want to explore in life! who knows? 😂
yeh once spent weeks thnking bout sumone only talked to lik once at party lol
sounds frustrating but perhaps it indicates something unmet in your current life? dwelling might keep you from finding what you truly need elsewhere though.
i wonder if focusing on new interests or hobbies would help redirect that energy elsewhere instead? seems worth trying since getting hooked on distractions hasn't helped yet.
honestly man chill out... these things happen all the time don't make it bigger than it needs to be.
'Chill out,' he says while losing his mind... If only!
