The story

so, I ran into my first love at a mutual friend's wedding recently. talk about a plot twist. one minute I’m sipping my drink, the next, our eyes lock from across the room and bam, I’m hit with a wave of feelings I thought I’d buried ages ago. like, seriously, who invited these emotions to the party?

we exchanged some polite hellos, but inside, I was screaming for a deeper conversation. it made me realize how much I had convinced myself I was over it all. years apart, countless attempts at emotional detachment, and yet here I was, feeling like a teenager again. can you ever truly erase your first love from your brain?

this whole encounter sent me spiraling. I started reminiscing about all those shared moments and laughs that feel like a lifetime ago. I mean, does moving on mean shoving those memories down or is it more about accepting them as part of my life story? maybe that’s the real kicker with nostalgia. it’s not just about looking back at the good times but also figuring out how they shape who you are today.

all those coping strategies I thought I had down pat came rushing back, but this time with a vengeance. trying to rationalize my feelings in a moment like that? yeah, good luck. is just accepting it enough when your feelings keep throwing curveballs at you?

now I’m left with these lingering doubts about whether I’ll ever find closure after encounters like this or if I’m just fooling myself into thinking I’m making progress. it’s a wild ride, and I’m not sure how to get off this emotional merry-go-round. 🤔
