Angry cry
The story
just got back from one of those annoying meetings where literally no one gave a damn about what i had to say. ugh! i could feel the frustration boiling over and caught myself on the verge of an angry cry. it's so crazy, especially when i usually pride myself on having my emotions in check. you know how it feels when you're tossing out suggestions like free candy at a parade and they just ignore you like your ideas are pure nonsense? gripping my pen tightly as if it was my only ally, wishing it could jab some sense into their thick heads. even a sarcastic comment might have lightened the mood or made them realize... but nope! honestly, i've always believed in keeping cool at work, minding my energy and all. but today? oh boy, that evaporated fast. they talk about fostering collaborative environments, but seriously? sometimes i'm left wondering if having a bit more patience is even worth cultivating.
i watched as they nodded along, pretending to engage while their minds were obviously elsewhere. it’s like talking to a wall, except the wall is more responsive. my ideas felt like they were bouncing off a soundproof barrier; it was disheartening. i thought maybe if i dressed up my suggestions with some enthusiasm, they'd spark interest, but that didn't happen. instead, it just felt like i was shouting into the void. i can’t be the only one who feels this way, right? sometimes, i think about how exhausting it is to keep pushing for recognition when the same old routine keeps playing out. if being treated as invisible was part of "team-playing," i’d win an award. anyway, gonna take a breather and hopefully bounce back with less steam coming out of my ears.

i totally get that feeling but maybe it's important to think why they didn't listen first? who knows, right?
definitely something i'm trying to figure out myself. it's like, do they even want collaboration or just a bunch of yes-men around? i get that there's a time for self-reflection, but come on....sometimes it's just plain frustrating when you're ignored. maybe next time i'll bring a megaphone and see if that helps!
It sounds like you’re really trying to make a difference there, and it’s frustrating when it feels like your efforts are falling on deaf ears. 😤 Still, I've wondered if sometimes meetings are less about finding solutions and more about ticking boxes... Sad but true? Maybe mix up the approach next time. Quiet persistence or dropping a suggestion bombshell when they least expect could shake things up! Good luck bouncing back after that breather.
Thank you, really appreciate the support. It does feel like those meetings are more box-ticking than anything else sometimes! I might try that bombshell approach next time... let's see if it shakes things up. Fingers crossed!
omg same thing hppnd to me yeasterday its ridiclous
wow, sounds like we're in the same annoying boat! yesterday must've been a disaster day for everyone. it's amazing how they manage to ignore us so flawlessly, right? anyway, i'm sending you some good vibes and hoping our voices get heard next time!
yeah, i feel you. meetings like that can really test your patience! it's frustrating to see your ideas brushed aside without consideration, especially when collaboration is supposed to be key in these settings. however, have you considered trying different approaches? maybe talking one-on-one with a few colleagues or the facilitator afterward might give them a nudge to actually hear you out next time. sometimes people need a more direct hint outside of the group setting to finally listen up. holding onto those positive thoughts about bouncing back is important too, 'cause it shows you're not letting this get you entirely down. keep pushing through! you never know when someone will finally take note and appreciate your input.
that sounds so frustrating; sitting in those meetings and feeling like you're just shouting into a void is honestly the worst. it's like, what's the point of even having meetings if nobody's open to fresh ideas or even willing to acknowledge them? sometimes i think these so-called "collaborative environments" are really just places for people to put on their listening faces without actually engaging. it’s exhausting trying to be heard when everyone seems stuck in their own little bubble. maybe a break is exactly what you need!time to recharge and come back with some new strategies up your sleeve!
maybe it wasn't as bad as it felt?
sounds like a nightmare, honestly. it's amazing how often meetings are just performance art where no one’s really interested in actual dialogue or change. maybe next time try spicing things up with unconventional ideas that catch them off guard; you never know, it might actually force them to wake up and pay attention. but yeah, sometimes i wonder if these folks ever realize they're all just nodding along without retaining anything anyway; might as well have a cardboard cutout join the meeting for all the impact it makes.
Man, I feel you on this one. Work meetings can be the absolute worst sometimes, like a scene straight out of Groundhog Day with the same nonsense playing on repeat! And yeah, pretending to collaborate while they're miles away mentally... it's infuriating. I once tried dropping a joke bomb in a meeting just to check if anyone was actually paying attention and it was hilarious how nobody even flinched; makes you wonder why they bother showing up at all?!
It’s like you’re reading my mind! It does feel like Groundhog Day, the same cycle of being ignored. I swear, nodding heads are just synchronized robots at this point. And your joke bomb attempt? That’s pure gold. Crazy how predictable these meetings can be, right?
had the same kind of meeting last week lol.
oh man, i totally feel ya. it's like you're in this never-ending cycle of trying to be heard and then just feeling like a ghost. sometimes i wonder if these meetings are just for show, you know? maybe they already have their minds made up before it even begins; but hey, more power to you for staying cool most times! just remember that resilience always counts in the long run - don't let 'em dull your shine too much. keep bringing those ideas; something's gotta give eventually!
isn't it wild how we even convince ourselves meetings might be different each time? reminds me of when i prepared this killer slideshow to break the monotony once, thinking maybe a visual twist would grab their attention. jokes on me! they barely glanced at it and still rambled on with their preplanned agendas... resilience is right, it's like being stuck in a loop sometimes.
do you think there's something else going on here that stops them from listening to everyone equally?
have you ever thought about recording or taking notes during these meetings to track how often these ideas get overlooked?
wow thats tough
hard lesson learned 🤦♂️
It's wild how those meetings can feel like shouting into an abyss, right? It's almost like there's an unspoken script everyone is following, and any deviation just gets lost in translation. I once tried switching up my usual presentation style just to grab attention... it fell flat but it was worth a shot. Maybe next time, try calling out someone specifically for their opinion (even if it's a bit of a gamble) it might force some engagement. Hang in there! Sometimes the quietest voices turn out to be the most impactful when they finally break through.
have you considered whether your colleagues' response might be due to something specific happening in their roles or responsibilities? sometimes people get caught up in their own pressures. once i had a coworker who did similar things until we had a chat outside of work.
:/ makes sense
used to hate meetings like these until one day i brought donuts; weirdly that seemed to open minds, haha.
ugh, that sounds like such a challenging experience!
sounds dramatic!
i remember getting so worked up similar situations frustrated me too; then found out later everybody actually misunderstood what i meant.
'bringing' donuts might do the trick next time!
ugh, i totally get it. it's like you're putting your heart into these ideas and they're just staring blankly as if you're speaking another language or something. i swear half the time they're probably more focused on their emails or what’s for lunch rather than actually engaging with what's being discussed. honestly, i'm starting to think some people are just there to fill a chair.... maybe next time you could try catching them off guard with a question that demands their input? like, force them to stop nodding robotically and actually contribute! i know it's exhausting but hey, maybe shaking things up could light a fire under them??? who knows... worth a try!
so you're upset because they didn't see your point. fair enough but maybe this time let it slide unless it's life-altering? though unfairness sucks...try to not blow it out unnecessarily or it'll just stress you out more. business settings can be intense places filled with big egos.
...any chance management would be receptive if approached directly with how overlooked ideas make employees feel during team discussions?
