Don't yell at me

The story

working at a family-owned restaurant is like stepping into a sitcom where the laugh track is replaced by my uncle's yelling. seriously, I never thought I'd get yelled at so much by someone who's supposed to be family. I mean, come on, what happened to "family first"? instead, it's more like "yell at the youngest relative first."

it’s like every day at work is a game of dodgeball but with verbal grenades. I can feel the stress creeping in, like a slow leak in a tire, and I NEED this job. where else am I gonna find a place that pays me to serve fries and listen to my uncle's rants about how "the new generation doesn't know hard work"? spoiler alert: I know hard work, I’m working for you!

you'd think working in a familiar place would mean understanding and respect, but nope. it’s all about family obligations, and it feels like I’m stuck trying to balance a tightrope while he’s grilling me for the smallest mistakes. the other day, I spilled a drink and you would have thought I just declared war. I mean, really, it was just a soda.

so, every shift is like walking through a minefield. I have to predict what will set him off next. Is it the way I chop vegetables? the way I smile at customers? it’s like I’m auditioning for a role in a family drama where the stakes are my sanity. sometimes, I think I’d have better luck trying to win the lottery than finding a way to make my job less of a nightmare.

I try to rationalize it, telling myself that the job market is tough and alternatives are slim. but man, it’s exhausting. I just want to serve food without feeling like I’m in an emotional boxing ring. if anyone has tips on surviving family drama while trying to keep my sanity intact, I’m all ears. or maybe just a good meme to distract me from the chaos...
