The story

I started a new job recently, and once again, I feel like I'm out of place compared to my colleagues. It's not just this job either; it's been a recurring pattern throughout my life in different environments. Whether it's in school, at previous jobs, or in various social settings, the feeling of being inadequate lingers. Despite having adequate qualifications and skills on paper, my confidence is often overshadowed by a sense of worthlessness.

The issue manifests itself when interacting with coworkers who seem to grasp everything more naturally than I do. They discuss concepts and projects effortlessly, while I constantly worry about asking obvious questions that might embarrass me. It's as if everyone else was given an instruction manual that I somehow missed out on. This perception not only hampers my professional growth but also affects my personal well-being.

Part of the problem, I suppose, lies in self-comparison. Observing others' achievements makes me question my own abilities. Why do they always appear more competent? Why can't I shake off this overwhelming doubt? It doesn't help that despite working hard and staying updated with industry-specific knowledge, gaining validation seems elusive.

Maybe these feelings are irrational, yet living with them day after day takes its toll. The embarrassment intensifies, and my mind keeps looping back to past instances where I've felt foolish or inferior. It feels like dragging an old burden into every new opportunity...a constant reminder that perhaps I'm just not good enough....
