family arguing
The story
So here's the deal: I'm sitting in my room, trying to focus on my homework when I overhear my parents having this intense argument. It starts kind of quietly, but then it's like boom, they're raising their voices about money problems. At first, I tried to ignore it thinking maybe they'll cool down after a while, but they just keep going and it’s impossible to concentrate. I mean, how am I supposed to study math equations when there's all this drama happening right outside my door? It's not like you can just tune that out.
The worst part is my younger sibling comes into my room asking what’s going on because obviously they're picking up on the vibes too. They look at me with those wide eyes like I'm supposed to have all the answers and magic them away or something. But honestly, what am I supposed to say? Part of me wants to cover for our parents and say everything's fine, but then again, lying doesn't feel right either; especially when it's such an obvious lie. You know that feeling where you’re caught between a rock and a hard place? Yeah, that's where I'm at now.
It's weird because you'd think I'd be used to it by now. The arguments happen more often these days it seems, or maybe I'm just more aware of them than before. Either way, it's draining being around that kind of negative energy so frequently. All this tension in the house makes schoolwork twice as hard since it's like living with background noise you can't turn off; always buzzing in the back of your mind.
I wish there was some simple fix for it all (something that would make everything better overnight!!) but that's not how life works apparently. You try talking to them sometimes, see if they can lower their voices or take a break from fighting at least until after I've finished studying... not surprisingly that doesn't go over well most times... So here we are again today same old situation different day.
I guess writing this out helps a little even though nothing has really changed yet. Maybe tomorrow will be different who knows but right now pretty much feels like we're stuck in this loop we're all waiting for something to give.
