Why is my daughter so mean to me?
The story
been baffled lately about why my teenage daughter is being so mean to me. it's like every time I try to engage with her, there's this wall she's put up, and I just can't seem to break through it. i've been trying everything i can think of. we’ve tried shopping together, engaging in conversation over dinner, even binge-watching shows we both used to love. but all i'm getting from her is hostility and sarcasm that feel entirely out of nowhere. it’s gotten to the point where i'm questioning whether there are deeper issues I'm oblivious to. am I missing something? the whole scenario plays on repeat in my mind: our interactions start with a normal conversation about school or friends, then suddenly take a turn for the worse. she'll throw a comment like "you wouldn’t understand" which shuts down any meaningful dialogue immediately.
at times, i can't help but wonder if she’s just going through one of those infamous teenage phases everybody talks about. yet this sense of uncertainty lingers: could it be more complex than that? references and anecdotes come flooding in… like terms from popular psychology articles suggesting underlying emotional distress or identity struggles all teenagers might face at some point. trying not to jump to conclusions has become difficult though i guess that's somewhat natural when you're directly involved and genuinely care about making things better. regardless, the sting remains painful as ever especially since assumptions only seem to breed incomprehension between us instead of bridging gaps.
