why does nobody care about me?
The story
recently moved to this new city and man, it's tough out here... seems i am not the first one in this situation on this website... i'm doing my best, ya know? trying to get involved at work by chatting up coworkers and joining them for lunch when i can. i've been hitting up social events like trivia nights and game meetups too but still. it just feels like i'm invisible to everybody around 😞
i see people swapping stories and laughing over coffee and i can't help but wonder why that's not me. everyone's nice enough on the surface like they say 'hi' and all but there's no depth in anything. nobody really seems interested much beyond the surface level stuff, makes me feel kind of unimportant...
i guess it's also partly on me; sometimes i don't exactly let my guard down or show too much either, maybe worried about trust going up in thin air again... who knows.
like that famous lyric from 'Eleanor Rigby', right? 'all the lonely people' part sticks with you after this experience. anyways, i'll keep pushing through while hoping things take a better turn soon 🙏

I think making connections in a big city can be quite an overwhelming experience because everything moves so fast. I've been there too where you try every possible way but somehow end up feeling left out in the mix. And maybe it's true that superficial greetings can sometimes seem like they're enough when deep down they're not really reaching us emotionally or mentally.
so true! quick socials make real friendships tough though...
moved to a new city a while back and had the exact same feeling, especially when I joined an office where it felt like everyone already knew each other for ages.
Yeah, it's like stepping into a movie where everyone else is already playing their part. I remember joining one trivia night and feeling like an outsider in a room full of inside jokes. Made me wish for instant friend credits!
It's tricky, you know, this situation where you're putting yourself out there but feel like you're just blending into the background; maybe it's that cities kind of have this buzz that sometimes makes real connection hard to find, even when we think we're doing everything right.
honestly maybe your just being hard on yourself...social stuff takes time right? moving isn't easy n you probably need to give it more months anyway before judging so quickly! besides if they say hi all nicely well that's atleast a start kinda!
At least people are being polite right?
hey, i totally get how you're feeling. moving to a new city can feel like starting from scratch in so many ways, and it's brave of you to dive into different activities. in my experience, sometimes it takes just one deep conversation to break through that surface-level stuff; maybe focusing on quality over quantity could help? try finding someone who shares a specific interest or hobby and go deeper with them instead... you might be surprised at the connection you can build 😊 keep that hope alive!
finding your place in a new city is like, the ultimate challenge; i once moved to this vibrant metropolis full of promise but felt like just another dot on the map.
Once I had a similar experience when I first moved to New York.
It might take some time to find your tribe, but when you do, it's going to be golden; have you thought about organizing a small gathering yourself like a coffee meetup or something with people who share similar interests?
interesting how cities are like beehives, buzzing with activity yet somehow isolating; I've observed that sometimes it's the little things (offering a genuine compliment or remembering a small detail about someone) that can lead to more meaningful interactions, though, let's be honest, even then it might still feel like wading through molasses.
yeah sounds familiar i once felt lost at my new job took forever to feel settled
finding friends in a new place is always tricky cuz every group already has their dynamics set out...but also let's not forget some newbies are accepted easier than others due random chances or even certain vibes (kinda crazy!). Surviving those first few events itself is commendable good luck can shine next roadblock!
...definitely agree each place comes with preset barriers that's gotta break through
