The story

Ran into my ex at a coffee shop today, which was the worst possible coincidence... I was just trying to enjoy my espresso when I saw him across the room, and all those old feelings rushed right back in like an unwelcome storm. It's fascinating how rekindled emotions work; it's like picking a scab off a wound you've been trying to let heal. The relationship we had was a fucking TOXIC rollercoaster: never-ending drama, gaslighting, and endless cycles of highs and lows that left me feeling emotionally bankrupt by the end of it all. But now? Here I am obsessively thinking about him once again. Is it really him I'm missing or just the rush of being 'in love' despite knowing it chemically messed with my brain? I've read studies on dopamine levels during the honeymoon phase and it seems eerily similar to addiction.

So what's more maddening is this constant mental back-and-forth about whether I'm capable of being addicted to love itself. Could I be stuck replaying these unhealthy loops because my neurotransmitters are holding on for dear life? Or maybe it's just garden-variety nostalgia. Moments with him were intense, good or bad but always high-octane. This whole situation feels annoyingly unsolvable; knowing too much yet not enough to break free from this stupid cycle! "The heart wants what it wants," someone quoted... It sounds poetic until you've lived through heartbreak one too many times. And sure every therapist out there would probably suggest mindfulness or CBT techniques but let's be real... nothing beats an unforgiving slap of reality.
