why do i want to be alone all the time?
The story
it's kinda weird, you know? just had a birthday party the other day. i mean, everything was perfect. friends laughing, good food….the whole vibe was great;… but there i was, in the middle of all this, wishing everyone would just leave already. don't get me wrong, i love my friends, they're great company and seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves; but as much as i tried to engage and act like the happy host, deep down i wanted to just crawl into bed and engulf in solitude.
this feeling isn't exactly new; been growing stronger over the past year. it's not your usual 'i need some me time' kind of thing; it's relentless! after every social event (even when i've enjoyed myself) there's this overpowering urge to retreat into my own space for days on end. reading somewhere once that needing alone time is healthy... but this feels different; like i'm torn between two worlds where one side wants to be surrounded by people while the other screams for isolation?! it's exhausting trying to make sense of it all... anyone else been through something similar?

idk man sounds like maybe u r just overthinking it? sometimes wanting quiet alone time is normal lol.
Man, I totally get you. It's like your social battery just drains faster now, right? I remember feeling that way after a packed weekend with friends; by the end of it, I was so desperate for quiet that even my own breathing felt too loud! Have you noticed if there's something specific triggering this need for space??
Yeah, exactly! It's almost like my social battery drains in record time. There isn't a specific trigger I can pinpoint, though... it's just this constant undercurrent of needing solitude after any interaction. Like being around people pulls more energy than it used to; it's kinda baffling.
omg yes I feel this too its like even after hving fun n being with ppl u just want to escape its so wierd??
Yes! It feels like escaping is almost necessary now even after having a good time!
wow, sounds like a classic case of social hangover 🙄 happens to the best of us. maybe it's an introvert thing, where you get all charged but then suddenly, bam! battery totally drained; happens to me after just one quick lunch with friends!! maybe try experimenting with shorter gatherings or mixing up your interactions so they’re less intense? can’t be easy juggling those internal conflicts every time;;; power through it though, you'll find balance eventually 😅
sounds like you're feeling the tug of introversion maybe. like, even extroverts need a break sometimes but it's easy to overlook when you're in the middle of things. not saying you have to label yourself or anything but balance is key; try mixing solo chill time with these social bursts and see if it helps; idolizing one extreme can elevate another if kept unchecked. john lennon once said, "time you enjoy wasting was not wasted," so enjoy your solitude too and don't stress about it 😉
man, your story totally hit home. i remember my last birthday party, everyone was having a blast but after a while, all the noise and chatter just became too much. it’s like being in two minds: one part craving the company and the other just wanting to hit pause on life and find some peace. sometimes even small social stuff shakes me up for days lol 😅 you'd think we should be used to these feelings by now!
yeah, it's kinda wild how sometimes the energy of a room can feel overwhelming even when everything seems perfect; i've had similar feelings during gatherings, and it's like my brain just flips a switch from "social butterfly" to "introverted hermit" without warning.
hmm cld it be social anxiety or smth?
Have you considered that maybe this is just a sign of personal growth or change?? I mean, we all evolve over time, and sometimes our needs shift in unexpected ways. I remember going through something similar when I started valuing more introspective activities. Maybe the solitude you're craving is your mind's way of recalibrating things; it sounds like it's almost asking for space to process some new aspect of yourself??? It's possible that embracing this might reveal new insights about what truly fulfills you now.
maybe you're just going through a phase where socializing feels extra draining; sometimes life changes or stress can make alone time feel more essential than usual, you know?
yeah, maybe that's it? stress has been through the roof lately. guess i should give myself some slack to figure this out. seems like more than just a phase though, but we'll see...
I hear you and I understand that need for solitude can be overwhelming at times. However, have you considered discussing how you feel with your close friends? They may provide support and help ease some of that pressure you're experiencing.
