How to forget someone you love?
The story
It's like living in a goddamn romantic comedy, only without the comedy part. You know, when everything seems to be going just fine and then BOOM you see your ex at the coffee shop every day? Yeah, that's my life now. It's flipping insane how many times I run into them at our old haunt where we used to sit and chat about nothing and everything over a cup of overpriced coffee. Those memories come flooding back like an unstoppable tidal wave, slamming me with emotions I'd convinced myself were long gone. It's as if the universe decided I wasn't done dealing with this bullshit yet.
I kid you not, this one time I'm standing there trying to order my usual latte (the same damn drink that reminds me of them) and there they are: just casually walking in like it's no big deal while I'm losing my mind internally. And don't get me started on the perfunctory "hello" we exchange...it's almost nauseating how civil it is when I want to yell out 'What the hell are you doing here again?!'. But noooo, society demands politeness even when you're dying inside; so, I plaster on a fake smile and act like it doesn't matter. 🙃
Weirdly enough, I'm reminded of something Mark Twain supposedly said: 'Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.' Damn right, Twain! Yet here I am still tangled up in this mess wondering why it's so hard to let go when they're clearly getting on just fine without any apparent emotional baggage. It's frustrating as hell realizing that what I once dismissed as trivial was actually setting roots deep into my psyche. Effortlessly maintaining neutrality becomes impossible the moment they walk through that door.
And honestly? I've tried all sorts of crap people suggest for forgetting: blocking them on social media (oh boy do they have friends posting pics), deleting their number (yet somehow remembering it by heart), keeping busy (spoiler alert: workaholism doesn't erase heartbreak). Nothing works because my damn brain insists on reminding me during quiet moments or in random places that we used to share something special. So yeah... any genius tips for wiping someone's existence from your mental map would be appreciated before I lose what's left of my sanity!
